Suggestions for students to be effective learners

Some tips for effective English learning:

Three Don’ts.

1. Don’t use your electronic dictionary and translate English into Chinese when you read. You will be reading the Chinese meaning not English.

2. Don’t read an essay/ article just once if you want to learn from it. Read at least twice: first time to get a general idea out of the text; second time to read more carefully and learn how an idea is expressed.

3. Don’t just memorize words. Read different articles, from magazines, newspaper, web pages and enjoy the process. Reading for enjoyment is the key to effective learning.
